JUST IN: Court slams N10m bail each on 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters

#EndBadGovernanceProtest: Protesters take over Abuja stadium

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail of N10 million each to the ten members of the #endbadgovernance# protesters, who were accused of attempting to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between July 1 and August 4 of this year.

Justice Emeka Nwite approved their bail while issuing a ruling on their applications for bail.

Among other requirements, the protesters are to present one surety each for the same amount, with the condition that the sureties are residents of Abuja.

Additionally, the sureties must be property owners in Abuja and are required to submit property documents to the court, along with an affidavit of means.

Furthermore, both the defendants and their sureties must submit their international passports and three recent passport-sized photographs to the court.

Justice Nwite, while dismissing the objections raised by the Inspector General of Police regarding the bail application, instructed the defendants to refrain from participating in any public rallies throughout the duration of their trial.

Until their bail conditions are fully met, the Judge ordered that they be held in prison custody.

Meanwhile, the trial is set to begin on September 27.

The accused individuals were alleged to have committed treasonable offenses during their week-long nationwide protests, during which they purportedly waged war against Nigeria.

These offenses are said to violate sections 96, 410, and 413 of the Penal Code.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, who filed the charges against them, claimed that the accused broke into the Abacha Army Barracks and publicly urged the military to seize control of President Tinubu’s constitutional government.

He also alleged that they attempted to infiltrate the seat of power, during which they purportedly set fire to a police station and assaulted police officers.

Additionally, they were accused of inciting the Nigerian public against the government and vandalizing numerous public properties, including a police station, the High Court complex, and facilities of the National Communication Commission, NCC.

The accused individuals include Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello Nurudeen Khamis, and Abduldalam Zubair.
