An assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump occurred on Sunday, September 15, while he was playing at his resort in West Palm Beach, Florida.
The FBI confirmed the occurrence in a statement the same day, indicating that an investigation is still underway.
According to law enforcement officials, Secret Service agents spotted and fired on an armed man hiding in the woods near the golf course’s property line, about a hundred yards from Trump’s location.
The perpetrator left an AK-47-style assault rifle and other belongings at the site before escaping in a car but was later arrested.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a shooting at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania two months prior, where Trump sustained a minor injury to his right ear.
CNN reported that the individual involved has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, from Hawaii.
