Shehu Sani, an ex-lawmaker for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has stressed the necessity of consequences for those who receive a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) but do not vote.
According to him, imposing sanctions on people with a Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) but not voting will effectively address the low voter turnout on election days.
Sani made this call via his official X-handle on Sunday.
Sani’s proposal aims to encourage greater civic participation and responsibility among citizens during electoral processes. It ultimately strengthens the democratic system by ensuring that individuals exercise their right to vote and actively contribute to shaping the nation’s future through electoral participation.
He said, “Heavy fine should be imposed for those who collected PVC but refused to vote.
“That is the best way to address the problem of low voter turnout,” he said.
In related news, ahead of the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) request to redeploy the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha.
Onuoha’s connection with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, has sparked disputes and raised concerns.
