Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been ordered to pay $100 million to a man following allegations of sexual assault. In a lawsuit filed in June, Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith accused the hip-hop mogul of drugging and assaulting him at a party in Detroit back in 1997.
Combs’ lawyers have denied the claims, but Cardello-Smith, who is currently serving a prison sentence, was awarded $100 million by default in a virtual hearing.
Combs did not appear in court, leading to the judgment. Combs’ attorney plans to have the judgment dismissed.
“(Cardello-Smith) is a convicted felon and sexual predator, who has been sentenced on 14 counts of sexual assault and kidnapping over the last 26 years,” he said in a statement. “His resume now includes committing a fraud on the court from prison, as Mr. Combs has never heard of him let alone been served with any lawsuit. Mr. Combs looks forward to having this judgment swiftly dismissed.”
Cardello-Smith, who has been sentenced to 75 years in prison on separate charges, has not yet commented on the ruling. Reports indicate he has studied law while in prison and has a reputation for challenging legal matters.
