Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has announced an increase in the minimum wage for state civil servants to N80,000, effective from November 1, 2024.
Additionally, Diri has approved a raise in monthly pension for retirees and allocated N7.0 billion towards reducing outstanding gratuities.
According to a statement by Chief Press Secretary Mr. Daniel Alabrah released on Saturday in Yenagoa, Diri recognized the financial challenges faced by workers in the state amidst the increasing cost of living.
The statement read: “To address these harsh times and in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment Act 2024), the Prosperity Administration of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri has approved the sum of N80,000 as the minimum wage for the state’s workers.
“Governor Diri also approved an increase in the monthly pension for state retirees.
“The related consequential adjustments for the various sectors, as agreed with the leadership of Labour in the state, will be implemented.
“To further alleviate the challenges faced by our retired senior citizens, His Excellency also approved the payment and reduction of the outstanding gratuity liabilities by seven billion Naira.”
The statement concluded that the governor expressed appreciation for the understanding, patience, and commitment civil servants have shown towards his administration’s policies and programmes.
