Shehu Sani, the former Senator for Kaduna Central, accused the World Bank of contributing to the hardship faced by Nigerians by prolonging it for another 15 years before any improvements are seen.
Posting on X, Shehu Sani wrote: “The World Bank wants the hardship to extend to the next fifteen years before we can reach the promise land. I don’t know how many people will be remaining at that time to enjoy the fruits of the WB in its promise land. The question is How many African countries have the World Bank taken to the promise land?” [sic].
This comes after the World Bank reported that the Nigerian Naira is one of the worst-performing currencies in sub-Saharan Africa as of August 2024.
The report attributed the Naira’s decline to a high demand for dollars and limited dollar inflow, resulting in a 43 percent depreciation in recent months.
