Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, initially planned for this season to be his last with the Premier League champions.
Despite this, he decided not to “let the club down” after a series of four consecutive defeats. City confirmed on Thursday night that Guardiola has signed a two-year contract extension, extending his reign to over a decade.
Although he had anticipated leaving next summer, Guardiola’s commitment during the team’s difficult period sent a strong message.
He said: “Since the beginning of the season I’ve been thinking a lot.
“I thought that (this season) should be the last one.
“But with the problems we had in the last month, I felt that now is not the time to leave. I would have let the club down.”
