The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), in conjunction with an insurance provider and a prominent international technology firm, has launched a mobile application designed to mitigate passenger delays and to ensure compensation for travelers when delays surpass three hours.
Introduced during a stakeholder conference at the NCAA annex office in Lagos, the application is intended to assist passengers in identifying boarding zones, streamline the refund process for cancellations, and facilitate compensation for delays. Furthermore, it guarantees prompt refunds through the insurance provider once the airline confirms the validity of the flight ticket.
Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, emphasized that the platform reflects technologies currently operational in Europe, thereby aligning with the aviation re-engineering objectives articulated by Minister Festus Keyamo. Achimugu further noted that the NCAA’s interaction with airlines has fostered enhanced collaboration, thereby elevating the quality of service within the industry.
The platform, engineered by Breezetech Technologies, employs blockchain technology to provide near-instantaneous assistance to stranded passengers, while concurrently safeguarding the interests of airlines. Industry specialist Rolland Iyayi commended the initiative, asserting that it propels Nigeria’s aviation sector closer to international benchmarks.
