The Swedish Prosecution Authority has officially closed the investigation into rape allegations against French football star Kylian Mbappé, citing insufficient evidence to proceed with charges.
This development, reported on Thursday morning, ends months of intense scrutiny and speculation that had cast a shadow over the footballer’s illustrious career.
Mbappé’s Stance Throughout the Investigation
Mbappé, who consistently denied the allegations, has yet to issue an official statement following the prosecutor’s decision. However, his legal team had earlier emphasized his commitment to cooperating fully with the Swedish judiciary.
In October, PUNCH Online, quoting AFP, reported that Mbappé was linked to a rape investigation in Stockholm. At the time, his lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, made it clear that the footballer would provide any necessary explanations directly to the Swedish judiciary, dismissing media allegations about his supposed commentary on the incident.
“He prioritises providing his explanations, if required, to the Swedish judiciary,” Canu-Bernard stated, while condemning reports suggesting Mbappé had spoken about the events during his trip to Stockholm.
Case Timeline and Closure
The investigation began earlier this year and focused on allegations stemming from an incident in Stockholm. Despite the global attention the case received, the Swedish prosecutor ultimately determined that there was insufficient evidence to pursue charges, effectively closing the inquiry.
A New Chapter for Mbappé
As one of football’s brightest stars, this decision allows Mbappé to move forward, free from the legal uncertainties surrounding him in recent months.
