Serie A: Okoye dropped from Udinese squad over betting scandal

Udinese, a Serie A club, has removed goalkeeper Maduka Okoye from their list of registered players due to suspected betting irregularities.

The Nigerian international is being investigated for allegedly betting on his own yellow card during Udinese’s match against Lazio on March 11, 2024, where he received a yellow card for time-wasting.

Authorities searched Okoye’s home in response to complaints from the betting agency,Sisal.

If found guilty, the 25-year-old could face a ban of up to five years.

Currently recovering from a wrist injury, he has been replaced by Egil Selvik in Udinese’s 25-man squad.
