A$AP Rocky has informed the judge in his assault case that he will not be testifying.
After consulting with his lawyer, the rapper has decided against taking the stand in his own defense.
A$AP Rocky was not obligated to testify, and the potential risks of a damaging cross-examination may have influenced his decision.
He confirmed this choice to the judge during the final stage of his trial for felony firearm assault in Los Angeles.
“You have a right to get on the stand and give your side of the case,” the judge told him, going on to say that, “It’s totally your decision to either get on the stand or waive your right to testify and not testify.”
When asked if he knew what was at stake if he opted not to take the stand, Rocky replied, “I do, in fact.”
This decision follows the surprising testimony from his tour manager Lou Levin, who stated that the rapper carried a prop gun as a safety measure after a stalker invaded his home.
If found guilty, he could face up to 24 years in prison.
