A$AP Rocky has played down speculation of a full-blown feud with Drake, insisting there is no “real smoke” between them—just a clear lack of interest in rekindling a friendship.
Speaking during an interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden on Wednesday, the rapper addressed fan theories that lyrics from his track Stole Ya Flow were aimed at Drake. Rocky dismissed the idea of an ongoing rap beef, explaining that the tension is more personal than professional.
“This thing between us—it’s not real smoke, but I just don’t f**k with him,” Rocky said. “We was once friends. I feel like it’s over females. I feel like he wasn’t happy and he expressed that.”
The 37-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, went further by criticising Drake for repeatedly referencing his longtime partner, Rihanna, describing such behaviour as “soft.”
Drake and Rihanna famously had an on-and-off relationship between 2009 and 2016, collaborating on hits like What’s My Name? and Work. Rihanna later began dating Rocky in 2020, and the couple now share three children.
“At some point, everyone’s getting older and you’re supposed to be moving on,”A$AP Rocky added. “For you to be picking at a female, that’s soft to me.”
He also made it clear that his recent music wasn’t created to fuel drama, stressing that he only responded because he felt it was necessary, even though he views the entire situation as petty.
“There’s enough money, women, fame, spotlights to go around,” he said. “Is it real smoke? It could never be. That ain’t real smoke.”
Drake, 39, has yet to respond publicly to Rocky’s comments. Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky recently released his fourth studio album, Don’t Be Dumb, which dropped last week.
