Kanye West, the American rapper and billionaire also known as Ye, has caused a stir on social media by revealing that he turned down a $2 million offer to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme.
The scheme involved posting a fake crypto promotion and then claiming his account had been hacked.
Kanye West, who recently made headlines for stopping traffic for his wife’s photoshoot, shared details of the scam on social media, showing a screenshot of the proposed deal.
The scam promised an upfront payment of $750,000 for a promotional post about a “fake Ye currency” to remain live for eight hours.
“I was proposed 2 million dollars to scam my community. Those left of it. I said no and stopped working with the person who proposed it,” Kanye West wrote in a now-viral post.
Afterward, he was expected to claim his account had been compromised. A second payout of $1.25 million would have followed 16 hours later.
The revelation sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians drawing comparisons to music star Davido, who previously faced backlash for promoting a meme coin in 2024.
His involvement led to warnings from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), cautioning citizens about the risks.
