Marcelo, the former left-back for Real Madrid, has announced his retirement from football at 36 years old.
He shared the news through a video post on his X account.
“At 18, Real Madrid knocked on my door and I arrived here. Now, I can proudly say that I am a true Madrileno,” Marcelo said.
“My journey as a player ends here, but I still have so much to give to football. Thank you for everything.”
Throughout his career, Marcelo has been one of the most successful and celebrated players, having won numerous trophies, including five UEFA Champions League titles and six La Liga titles during his time with Real Madrid, where he joined in 2007 at just 18 years old.
In 2021, he became the club captain before leaving for Olympiacos at the end of the 2021-22 season. However he later returned to his childhood team, Fluminense, in 2023.
