NNPCL denies Warri refinery explosion rumours

NNPCL

NNPCL has refuted reports of an explosion at the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company, dismissing them as completely untrue.

The company explained that operations at Area 1 of the refinery were temporarily halted on January 25, 2025, in order to conduct necessary maintenance work on specific equipment, including field instruments that were affecting the refinery’s efficiency and sustainability.

In a statement released on Friday by Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL’s chief corporate communications officer, it was clarified that these maintenance works were crucial to ensure the production of high-quality finished and intermediate products, such as automotive gas oil and kerosene.

“The routine maintenance is progressing as planned, and Area 1 will be back in operation within the next few days.

“Despite ongoing interventions, over the past 11 days, AGO loading has been maintained at an average of eight trucks per day, with sufficient supply available to sustain ongoing truck load-out operations.
