David Coote has been banned by UEFA due to his offensive comments about Jurgen Klopp, which ultimately led to his dismissal from the Premier League.
David Coote’s controversy started in late 2024 when a leaked video showed him making disrespectful remarks about Liverpool and their former manager Klopp. He was captured using foul language to criticize Klopp and expressing his dislike for the German coach.
He said: “He accused me of lying and then just had a right f*cking pop at me. I’ve got no interest in speaking to someone who’s f*cking arrogant. I do my best not to speak to him. You can see me there with mask on. Social distancing – 10 metres apart. But my God, German c*nt, f*ck me.”
After the video went public, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) acted quickly, suspending Coote from his refereeing responsibilities.
However, things took a turn for the worse when a second video surfaced, showing the 42-year-old seemingly sniffing a white substance. With his actions becoming increasingly unacceptable, the PGMOL made the decision to end his contract, citing the severity of his behavior.
On Thursday, UEFA released an official statement confirming David Coote’s suspension from refereeing duties across all competitions under its jurisdiction until June 30, 2026. The governing body cited multiple breaches of disciplinary regulations, including violations of basic standards of decent behaviour and bringing the sport into disrepute.
