Inter Milan took a commanding step towards the Champions League quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Feyenoord in Rotterdam.
Goals from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez sealed the win, while Piotr Zielinski missed a penalty in a dominant display by the visitors.
Despite injuries forcing Alessandro Bastoni into an unusual wing-back role, Inter controlled the game.
Ibrahim Osman tested Josep Martinez early, but Inter struck first when Nicolò Barella’s cross found Thuram, who produced a stunning flicked finish into the top corner.
Inter doubled their lead after the break when Bastoni’s driving run set up Zielinski, whose shot was blocked before Lautaro Martinez fired in the rebound.
With Jakub Moder’s volley clipping the crossbar, Feyenoord had chances, but their hopes took a hit when Timon Wellenreuther saved Zielinski’s penalty after a VAR-awarded foul on Thuram.
With Osman suspended for the second leg, Feyenoord faced a tough challenge at San Siro while Inter remained in firm control of the tie.
