Inter Milan has officially ended their chase for Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman after transfer negotiations with Atalanta broke down.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Inter officials are set to meet with Lookman’s representatives within the next 24 hours to formally communicate the club’s decision and provide clarity on the failed deal.
Talks between both clubs had been frozen for nearly two weeks, with Atalanta refusing to lower their valuation of the 26-year-old. Despite initial optimism, Inter were unable to reach a breakthrough and have now decided to walk away from the transfer.
Insiders also dismissed speculation linking the Lookman talks with Nicola Zalewski’s potential move from Roma to Atalanta, insisting the two negotiations were unrelated.
Lookman has been in sensational form since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022. Last season, he emerged as a key figure in their attack, scoring consistent goals in both Serie A and Europe. On the international stage, he was also instrumental in Nigeria’s run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, scoring three goals.
Inter had earmarked the Super Eagles star as a versatile attacking addition to bolster their forward line amid recent squad concerns. However, with Atalanta holding firm on their terms, the Nerazzurri will now switch focus to alternative targets in the final stretch of the summer transfer window.
