A man was arrested by police for scaling the historic “Big Ben” clock tower in the UK with a Palestinian flag.
The barefoot man, dressed in all black, remained perched on the side of the tower for several hours while the fire brigade tried to reason with him.
Onlookers gathered in Parliament Square to witness the situation, as Westminster Bridge was closed in both directions.
The Metropolitan Police in London, who were alerted to the climber early Saturday morning, confirmed the man’s arrest following the lengthy ordeal. Roads have since been reopened.
In a separate incident, protestors vandalized one of US President Donald Trump’s golf courses in Scotland, citing opposition to his plans involving the Gaza Strip.
The words “GAZA IS NOT 4 SALE” were painted on the lawn of the Trump-owned Turnberry golf resort, while other parts of the world-famous course, including holes used in Open Championships, were dug up, according to Palestine Action.
The campaign group, who claimed responsibility for the protest, said the action was “in response to the American administration’s plans and threats to destroy, ethnically cleanse, and ‘take over’ the Palestinian Gaza Strip.”
