According to Reds legend Michael Owen, Mohamed Salah is keen on extending his stay at Liverpool beyond this season.
However, the club will need to adjust its contract policy to make this possible.
Salah’s current deal expires on June 30, and while negotiations for a new contract are ongoing, Owen suggests that Liverpool will need to offer him a longer contract than their usual policy for players over 30 in order to keep him at the club.
Owen highlighted the high cost of replacing Salah and the logic of securing his future at the club rather than investing in a new high-profile signing.
“Mo Salah wants to stay. In fact, I’m pretty sure he wants to stay,” Owen told talkSPORT. “Liverpool might have a rule of only offering two-year deals to players of his age, but he’s no normal player.
“He’s fit, dedicated, and unbelievably professional. I’d bend the rules and give him the contract length he wants.”
Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has been a prolific goal scorer with 243 goals to his name, making him a key figure in the squad.
Despite ongoing contract talks, his future at Liverpool, along with that of Trent Alexander-Arnold who is reportedly close to joining Real Madrid, remains uncertain.
