Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will field only one candidate in the 2027 presidential election, ruling out the chances of an Igbo presidency led by Peter Obi.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former Senate Chief Whip reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second term, insisting that Tinubu must complete eight years in office to continue his economic reforms.
Kalu emphasized that while an Igbo presidency is needed, it must come through a candidate acceptable to all Nigerians, not just the South East.
“No one zone can make a president. Tinubu was not elected by the Yoruba alone—he was elected by all Nigerians.”
Dodging questions on when the time will be right for an Igbo presidency, Kalu instead reiterated APC’s commitment to Tinubu’s re-election, citing a vote of confidence from the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) led by Governor Hope Uzodinma and APC Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
“This president is not even doing politics right now. He has never said if he wants to run again or not, but as a party, we have mandated him to run,” Kalu stated.
