Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior has disclosed that the La Liga club told him not to attend the Ballon d’Or presentation last year.
Vinicius was widely expected to win the prize ahead of Manchester City’s Rodri.
However, on the day of the event, Madrid cancelled the delegation’s intentions.
This followed the revelation of information that Rodri would be named the world’s finest footballer.
Carlo Ancelotti, Madrid’s manager of the year, did not attend the awards ceremony.
“There are people who vote, that’s it,” he said.
“I will have other chances to win more awards and titles with this club.
“The club asked me NOT to go to the gala… and stay in Madrid. I do what they say.”
