Air Peace Airlines has announced the suspension of all flight operations across Nigeria, effective immediately, due to the ongoing industrial action by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
In a statement released by the airline, Air Peace emphasized that the decision was made in the interest of passenger safety.
The airline highlighted that NiMet is responsible for issuing CNH (Current Nowcast of Hazardous Weather) reports—critical data for ensuring safe landings, especially during this season of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
“As a safety-first airline, we have chosen to act responsibly by suspending operations until NiMet resumes full service,” the statement read.
The airline apologized to affected passengers and assured them that updates and rescheduling options would be provided.
The strike action by NiMet, which began on April 22, 2025, is being enforced by three major industry unions:

Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE)

Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP)
In a circular to members, the unions accused NiMet management of breaching agreements aimed at partially addressing poor staff remuneration. They stated that years of negotiation had failed to yield results, leaving workers in severe economic hardship.
“We can no longer continue to cope with the present hardships,” the circular read. “Accordingly, all staff of NiMet nationwide are hereby directed to withdraw all services from the agency indefinitely.”
Air Peace has pledged to resume operations once NiMet’s essential services are restored.
