Aisha Achimugu, a prominent businesswoman and socialite, has begun a hunger strike while in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after being arrested by the agency’s operatives.
This information was shared in a statement by her legal team, headed by Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Ojukwu said: “In the light of what transpired in court on Monday, our client returned based on the undertaking before the court to honor the EFCC’s invitation, but was arrested at the airport.
”She has immediately gone on a hunger strike. She is a prisoner of conscience and our stand in the arrest is that it has run contrary to the rule of law.”
The EFCC had last month declared Achimugu wanted for allegations of money laundering and criminal conspiracy.
Also, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice I.E. Ekwo, on Monday ordered Achimugu to honour the EFCC’s invitation today (Tuesday) and as well appear before the court on Wednesday
Ojukwu stated that their client was detained at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at approximately 5:00 am.
