Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested well-known Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, popularly known as E-Money, for allegedly abusing the Naira and defacing foreign currency, in violation of Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act.
The arrest reportedly took place Monday night at his Omole residence in Lagos, with sources confirming that E-Money was caught spraying U.S. dollars at an event—an act prohibited under Nigerian law.
A source within the agency revealed that the flamboyant businessman is currently being flown to Abuja for further interrogation, adding that he will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
“He was arrested for spraying dollars, which contravenes the Foreign Exchange Act. Preliminary investigations are underway,” the source confirmed.
The EFCC’s spokesperson Dele Oyewale declined to comment on the development as of the time of filing this report.
