US President Donald Trump introduced the inaugural “gold card” residency permit, which will be sold for $5 million each, while on board Air Force One on Thursday.
Displaying a prototype featuring his own image and the words “The Trump Card”, the Republican leader informed the press that the exclusive visa could potentially be obtainable in less than a fortnight.
“I’m the first buyer,” he said. “Pretty exciting, huh?”
Trump had previously expressed his belief that the distribution of these new visas, a more costly version of the traditional green card, would entice job creators and aid in reducing the US national deficit.
The wealthy former real estate mogul, who has prioritized the deportation of numerous undocumented immigrants in his political agenda, explained that this new card would serve as a pathway to achieving highly sought-after US citizenship.
Back in February, Trump had mentioned the administration’s goal of selling potentially one million of these cards and did not dismiss the possibility of Russian oligarchs being eligible applicants.
