Atiku Abubakar has condemned reports that some Nigerian students were forced to write their WASSCE exams in total darkness, calling it a national disgrace and a sign of deep neglect in the education sector.
In a Facebook post, the former Vice President described the incident as shameful and unacceptable, particularly given that it occurred a day after International Children’s Day.
He stressed that it exposed the failure of exam bodies to provide a basic, conducive environment, such as proper lighting, for national assessments.
Atiku urged the government to allow all affected students to retake the compromised paper, warning that punishing them for conditions beyond their control would be unjust.
He called for urgent investments in educational infrastructure and enforcement of minimum standards to prevent such institutional failures from recurring.
