Award-winning Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has opened up about welcoming her twin sons via surrogacy, addressing public criticism and advocating for the normalization of non-traditional paths to motherhood.
In a candid interview with Chude Jideonwo, the literary icon emphasized that while surrogacy can be misused, it can also be conducted ethically and compassionately.
She expressed frustration over societal double standards—where people champion women’s bodily autonomy but stigmatize choices like surrogacy.
“Our society is so judgmental… but my daughter and my babies are the greatest gift I’ve been given,” Adichie said. “Zero regrets.”
Adichie said she chose to speak up to help other women feel less shame about alternative motherhood journeys, hoping to foster a culture of acceptance, honesty, and support.
