The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted BBC News Pidgin’s claim that controversial social media figure VeryDarkMan (VDM) was arrested based on multiple petitions.
In an official statement on its social media platforms, the EFCC dismissed the BBC’s report as “fake news,” sharing screenshots of the article but offering no further details.
Earlier, BBC News Pidgin quoted EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale as confirming VDM’s arrest and stating that he would be released upon meeting bail conditions, with plans to take the case to court.
VDM was reportedly picked up last Friday after visiting a GTBank branch in Garki, Abuja, sparking outrage online. Many social media users accused the bank of collaborating with the EFCC in the arrest.
As of now, the EFCC has neither confirmed nor denied whether VDM is in its custody, leaving the public confused about the true nature of the incident.
