Luyanda Zuma, a 23-year-old model and former Miss South Africa Top 10 finalist, is making her acting debut in the highly anticipated second season of Shaka iLembe, premiering on 15 June at 8pm on Mzansi Magic.
The Pietermaritzburg-born beauty will portray a new character named Liyana, who is set to bring a twist to King Shaka’s love life. Viewers can expect a bold and unexpected storyline as Liyana’s presence introduces a new dynamic to the already gripping historical narrative.
In an interview with Daily Sun, Luyanda shared her excitement and nervousness about joining the acclaimed series.
“I come in as a different tone to what we’ve already been exposed to in terms of Shaka’s love life,” she revealed. “So, I come in as an element that I think is going to surprise a lot of people.”
Though new to the acting scene, Luyanda isn’t stepping in unprepared. She has studied acting and is passionate about telling stories that reflect culture, identity, and history.
With international modeling experience, including magazine covers and runway appearances, Luyanda is ready to take the South African entertainment industry by storm.
Discussing the complexities of portraying a character in a historical drama, Luyanda emphasized the balance between accuracy and artistic interpretation.
“You have to find the balance between being able to tell a story authentically according to the script and doing your own research to fill the gaps,” she explained.
Season 2 of Shaka iLembe continues the epic tale of the legendary Zulu king and promises deeper narratives, political intrigue, and emotional journeys. Luyanda Zuma’s character is set to play a pivotal role.
