Grimes has pulled out of her scheduled performance at the World Pride Music Festival to “deal with family issues”.
On Monday, the Canadian artist announced via X that she would no longer be performing at the upcoming U.S. event.
“I am so so sorry and regretful to say I have to cancel my pride show in order to deal with family issues,” she wrote in her post. “I want to say that I am aware the situation has been a great inconvenience to the fans for some time, and I am truly determined to make sure this is no longer the case very soon.”
While the 37-year-old did not provide further details about her personal matters, she reassured fans that the festival — aimed at promoting LGBTQ+ visibility — still promises a strong line-up.
“I think the show is still going to be amazing and the lineup is great,” she penned. “I hope this is early enough and gives people enough time if they wish to change their plans. And I will make this up to you guys very soon.”
Set to be headlined by Jennifer Lopez and Troye Sivan, the event will be held on June 6 and 7 in Washington, D.C.
Other featured acts include Reneé Rapp, Tinashe, Rita Ora, Paris Hilton, RuPaul, Kim Petras, and Marina.
Grimes’s announcement follows a recent online plea directed at her former partner Elon Musk — the father of her three children: X Æ A-XII, four; Exa Dark Sideræl, three; and Techno Mechanicus, one — asking him to refrain from sharing their images online.
“I have tried begging the public and my kids’ dad to keep them offline, and I’ve tried legal recourse,” Grimes posted on X. “I’ve seen young ppl destroyed by the internet (sic). The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day.”
Back in November, Grimes revealed she was engaged in a custody dispute with Musk, stating she hadn’t seen “one of my babies for five months”.
