In a recent interview with France Football, Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah acknowledged there was “tension” between himself and Sadio Mane during their time playing together at the Premier League club.
Salah was often criticized for not passing to Mane frequently enough, leading to a perceived rivalry between the two players.
This tension spilled over onto the international stage, as Mane’s Senegal defeated Salah’s Egypt to claim victory in the Africa Cup of Nations.
“Yes, there was tension with Sadio,” he said.
“Mind you, we were professional until the end; I don’t think it affected the team.
“It’s human to want more, I understand that; he’s a competitor. Off the pitch, we weren’t very close, but we always respected each other.”
Salah however insisted he didn’t care about suggestions he had been “selfish” while playing alongside Mane.
“People can think what they want; it’s their right. But I invite everyone to note that the person who provided Mané with the most assists is me,” he added.
