The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that Monday’s explosion near the Nyanya area of Abuja was a suicide bombing.
Speaking during a project inspection tour in the capital on Wednesday, Wike clarified that the incident was not an act of terrorism but the result of an accidental detonation involving quarry explosives.
According to the minister, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim unknowingly picked up an explosive device from a quarry site, which later detonated and caused the explosion.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation that could incite fear or panic, adding that security agencies are continuing investigations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
