Uyo, Nigeria – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has hinted that more governors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may soon join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following the defection of Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno.
Speaking at a reception event on Saturday to officially welcome Eno into the APC, Akpabio revealed that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri could be the next to switch sides.
“We are expecting more governors from the South-South, including Rivers and Bayelsa, to join the progressives soon,” Akpabio said.
He further commended Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for leaving the PDP and noted that the APC has also “secured victory” in Edo State, a reference to recent political shifts in the region.
Akpabio expressed confidence that the entire South-South region will unite behind President Bola Tinubu and the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The people of Akwa Ibom are happy with Governor Eno’s defection and fully support him,” Akpabio stated.
This development marks a significant political realignment in Nigeria’s oil-rich South-South zone, long considered a PDP stronghold.
