The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has called on former governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, to return to the PDP, describing the party as “rejuvenated and restructured.”
This appeal was made in a communiqué issued after an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Awka on Thursday.
The meeting was convened to assess the current state of the party and chart a new course for its future.
The communiqué, signed by Anambra PDP Chairman Mr. Chidi Chidebe, emphasized the need for political unity built on shared values rather than temporary coalitions. “Alliances with ideologically incompatible political formations, in the guise of coalitions, are unlikely to deliver the desired success,” Chidebe stated.
He extended what he called an “open invitation” to all former and aggrieved PDP members in Anambra to return, with a special appeal directed at Peter Obi, who left the party in 2022 to pursue his presidential ambition under the Labour Party platform.
“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria,” Chidebe said, reaffirming the PDP’s readiness to accommodate returning members.
He also urged the Anambra electorate to rally behind PDP’s candidates, Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Francis Okeke, in the upcoming state elections.
In closing, Chidebe called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the electoral process is fair, transparent, and impartial.
