Country music singer Conner Smith has cancelled two scheduled performances to privately process a tragic incident in which he accidentally struck and killed a pedestrian.
The 24-year-old artist was involved in a fatal traffic accident on June 8 in Nashville, Tennessee, where he unintentionally hit 72-year-old Dorothy Dobbins as she was using a designated pedestrian crossing.
In the aftermath of the incident, Conner Smith has withdrawn from a scheduled show on June 20 at a country club in Akron, Ohio. A representative for the singer confirmed the news in a statement:
“As Conner Smith takes time to privately process recent events, he will unfortunately not be performing in Akron on June 20. We appreciate your understanding and continued support during this difficult time.”
Additionally, Conner Smith pulled out of his performance at the Buckeye Country Superfest set for June 21. The festival announced his absence on social media, adding, “Vincent Mason will be joining us at The Shoe in his place.”
Authorities have confirmed that no charges will be filed. According to local police, Smith failed to yield the right of way to the pedestrian but showed no signs of impairment.
“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,” the police report stated.
The incident has deeply impacted the country singer, prompting him to pause his public engagements and grieve privately.
