Sean Diddy’s former publicist, Rob Shuter, has spoken out for the first time about the embattled music mogul, expressing horror over the serious allegations currently facing his former client.
Writing in The Hollywood Reporter, Shuter, who worked with Diddy in the early 2000s, questioned whether his lack of awareness about the alleged misconduct was a matter of “ignorance” or “complicity.”
“With Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs facing a cascade of allegations — including rape, sexual assault, sex trafficking, and physical abuse — all of which he has denied, I’m left with a question I can no longer avoid,” he wrote.
Shuter clarified that he never witnessed any abusive behavior while working with Combs but acknowledged that ambition and awe may have blinded him.
“When I say I didn’t see the alleged behaviour, I mean it. But I also understand the ways I may have refused to,” he admitted. “That refusal didn’t come from malice. It came from ambition… from the seductive hum of being needed by someone the world adored.”
Reflecting on his time managing Diddy image, Shuter said he convinced himself he was doing meaningful work — launching brands, securing magazine covers, and crafting public narratives. In hindsight, he now feels he was “managing a mirage.”
He added that the entertainment industry is filled with professionals — from agents to stylists — who often “learn to look away.”
Shuter, now host of the Naughty But Nice podcast, concluded by expressing hope that truth and justice will prevail in the ongoing case.
