Legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has been posthumously inducted into the prestigious 2025 Grammy Hall of Fame for his groundbreaking 1976 album, Zombie.
The Grammy Hall of Fame, established in 1973 by the Recording Academy, honours recordings of enduring historical and cultural significance that are at least 25 years old. Selection is made annually by a committee of respected experts from across the music and recording industries.
Fela’s eldest son, Femi Kuti, proudly accepted the award on behalf of the Kuti family, expressing gratitude for the global recognition of his father’s legacy.
“Our father’s legacy lives on. We are honoured to accept this Grammy Hall of Fame award on behalf of Fela Anikulapo Kuti,” Femi Kuti shared on X (formerly Twitter). “His music continues to inspire and unite people across the world.”
Fela Kuti, who passed away on August 2, 1997, remains one of the most influential voices in global music and social activism. Almost three decades after his death, his revolutionary sound and fearless political messages continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.
