Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has asked fellow singer Wizkid to remove the tattoo of his late father, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, from his body.
Seun made the demand during a live video on Wednesday, as tensions escalated in an ongoing online exchange between both artists.
In the video, Seun accused Wizkid of harbouring resentment while publicly displaying admiration for Fela through the tattoo.
He further alleged that Wizkid harboured ambitions to supplant his father’s legacy, describing a distinction between being inspired by Fela and attempting to replace him.
The disagreement began after Seun criticised Wizkid’s fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, for comparing the singer to his late father.
Seun described the comparisons as disrespectful to Fela’s legacy and repeatedly urged fans to “keep Fela’s name out of your mouths.”
Wizkid later responded on social media with posts and videos defending himself, one of which contained remarks that intensified the dispute and drew widespread reaction online.
The public exchange has since reignited broader conversations among fans and commentators about legacy, influence, and respect within Nigeria’s music scene, particularly concerning Afrobeat’s historical figures and contemporary stars.
