Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has confirmed that the country has successfully secured a much-anticipated Heathrow Airport landing slot for its flag carrier, Air Peace.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, Keyamo described the achievement as the result of months of persistent diplomatic efforts aimed at enforcing Nigeria’s rights under the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA).
Keyamo hailed the milestone as a major diplomatic win that showcases the Nigerian government’s determination to ensure fair and reciprocal treatment for indigenous airlines on international routes.
“My dear compatriots, after many months of diplomatic exchanges and shuttles, insisting on our reciprocal rights under our Bilateral Air Services Agreement, we are pleased to announce that Nigeria has finally secured the coveted Heathrow slot for one of our flag carriers, Air Peace,” Keyamo’s post stated.
He emphasised that the breakthrough aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which supports indigenous enterprises while upholding global aviation standards.
With the new slot secured, Air Peace is now set to begin direct flights from Abuja to London Heathrow Airport starting in October 2025.
This comes after the airline’s successful inaugural flight from Lagos to London Gatwick Airport in March 2024, marking a new chapter in Nigeria’s push for stronger aviation presence on global routes.
