Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has raised alarm over the worsening security situation in Argungu and Zuru Emirates of Kebbi State, calling on all tiers of government to act decisively and urgently.
In a heartfelt video message from Birnin Kebbi, Malami condemned what he described as the government’s inaction amid increasing violence, displacement, and loss of lives across several communities.
“I wonder how the federal government is not doing enough to protect the lives and properties of citizens, let alone the state and local governments,” he said.
Malami drew attention to recent deadly attacks in Zuru, where he claimed more than 200 people have been killed. He lamented the emergence of “strange systems of insecurity” in the state, saying the situation was both disturbing and alarming.
He urged political leaders to rise above party lines and address the growing crisis head-on.
“Security issues should not be politicised,” he said.
“Lives are being lost, the rights of the people are being violated, and their wealth is being destroyed.”
The former minister also highlighted the suffering of communities in Argungu and Zuru, where Lakurawa elements and armed bandits have continued to unleash terror in villages such as Kyebu and Tadurga.
While expressing condolences to families affected by the violence, Malami emphasized the urgent need for coordinated and proactive interventions by federal, state, and local governments to stop the bloodshed and restore peace.
