Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has declared his willingness to serve only one term in office if that becomes a requirement of a coalition agreement, stating that his focus is on national development, not political power.
Speaking during a Space session on X (formerly Twitter) tagged #PeterObiOnParallelFacts, the former Anambra State governor made it clear that character, integrity, and political maturity matter more to him than personal ambition. The interactive session drew over 10,000 live listeners and close to 3,000 audience comments.
“If the agreement is one term, I will leave on May 28, 2031 — not even May 29,” Obi said in response to a question from a user named Balactic.
“I am not desperate to be president. I am desperate to see Nigeria work,” he added.
Peter Obi also emphasized that honoring zoning arrangements and respecting agreements within any potential coalition would demonstrate true political maturity — a value he believes Nigeria must embrace to move forward.
His comments come as conversations about potential alliances and unity candidates ahead of future elections continue to dominate Nigeria’s political landscape.
