The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confirmed that he revoked land belonging to former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, citing non-payment of ground rent.
Speaking over the weekend at the 60th birthday celebration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, in Abuja, Wike reiterated that under his leadership, the FCT Administration will not hesitate to reclaim lands from owners who fail to fulfill their financial obligations.
The event took place at the newly renovated Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where the minister used the opportunity to send a firm message to all property owners.
“Rochas Okorocha is here, he is my boss, even though I revoked his land because the right thing must be done, he is my man,” Wike said.
“Senators are here, Ikpeazu, my colleagues are here, yes, if you don’t pay, I will take back our property.
“Look at what Julius Berger did here, is it by empty hand? It is not by money?
“Pay and you will get the best services, and you are getting the best services under the leadership of Tinubu. I have no apologies because I’m the one here.”
Wike assured compliant property owners that they would continue to receive quality services, emphasizing that the FCT’s infrastructural development is tied directly to revenue from land rent.
His remarks reinforce the administration’s push for accountability and fiscal responsibility in Nigeria’s capital city.
