Lizzo delivers speech in support of black trans women

Lizzo

Lizzo delivered a  powerful message in support of Black trans women during Pride festival performance.

During her headline set at the West Hollywood Pride festival, Lizzo gave an emotional tribute to Black trans women, emphasizing their vital role in the ongoing fight for equality and inclusion.

“This is dedicated to you and, more importantly, the black trans women who, without their fight, we would not be able to celebrate today,” she declared from the main stage.

“And we still in some st, right? But hopefully, one day we will see a place where we no longer have to fight to exist. This is for you.

Following her heartfelt message, Lizzo performed a stripped-down rendition of Over the Rainbow, the iconic 1939 Wizard of Oz ballad, accompanied by a pianist.

The Still Bad singer went on to praise the trans community for their resistance against oppressive systems that have long sought to erase their existence.

“In honour of that fight, we have to continue to take a stand against that very same system that threatens our rights to bodily autonomy and liberation. We ain’t free until we’re all free.”

Lizzo, who hails from Detroit, also made headlines for proudly flaunting her curves in underwear on stage, months after achieving her weight-loss goal in January.

While she revealed that she had reduced her body fat by 16 per cent, she declined to disclose the specific amount of weight lost.

“If I say the number, I don’t think people could do the math,” the Love in Real Life singer said during an appearance on The Jason Lee Show last week.

“I’ve just seen a lot of TikToks where it’s like, ‘Lizzo talks about her 500-pound weight loss!’ Why are y’all putting numbers on me? It kind of annoys me.”
