Manchester City are reportedly willing to part ways with veteran midfielder Ilkay Gundogan this summer, with Galatasaray positioning themselves as frontrunners for his signature.
According to The Guardian, the Turkish champions have shown strong interest in signing the 34-year-old, whose contract has 12 months remaining after an automatic extension was triggered last season based on his appearances.
Despite his contract running until 2026, Gundogan is expected to see his game time diminish at the Etihad Stadium, with manager Pep Guardiola reshaping his midfield. City have bolstered their ranks by signing Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, and Nico Gonzalez, while Mateo Kovacic and Rodri are set to return from long-term injuries.
Sources close to the player suggest that Gundogan — who is of Turkish descent — is open to a potential move to the Super Lig, seeking more regular playing opportunities. Galatasaray are said to value the midfielder’s experience and leadership as they aim to build on last season’s domestic success.
While negotiations remain in the early stages, City are reportedly prepared to allow Gundogan to leave on a free transfer to facilitate the switch, despite his contract status.
Gundogan, part of City’s squad at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup, is expected to decide his future after the tournament concludes.
