Popular reality TV personality Tacha Akide has stirred reactions with her recent comments about Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.
In a video shared on social media, the former Big Brother Naija housemate — who recently relocated to the UK — claimed that, contrary to popular belief, many Nigerians in the UK are struggling financially.
“You see those of you always having inferiority complex in Nigeria, thinking everyone here is rich — most people here are broke. The most broke people I have met are actually the people I met in the UK,” she said.
Tacha further explained that the high cost of living in the UK has forced many residents to merely “manage” to get by, suggesting that some Nigerians back home are actually better off financially.
“Everyone is holding themselves. It is expensive as f$ck. Most people in Nigeria are living better off than most people in here,” she added.
Her remarks have sparked debates online, with many agreeing with her assessment, while others criticised her for generalising the experiences of Nigerians abroad.
