Fenerbahce manager José Mourinho has dismissed reports linking him with a return to Inter Milan, following Simone Inzaghi’s departure from the club.
Inzaghi left Inter after their Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain, opting to join Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. Mourinho, who led Inter to a historic treble in 2010, was swiftly linked with a sensational comeback to San Siro.
However, the Portuguese coach firmly denied the speculation. According to Italian journalist Ivan Zazzaroni, Mourinho messaged him directly, calling the reports “a big lie” and stating, “There was never any contact.”
He further downplayed the rumours, reportedly saying, “This is just being said because it’s what some angry fans want to hear… blah blah blah.”
Mourinho joined Fenerbahce in the summer and guided them to a second-place finish in the Turkish Süper Lig, 11 points behind rivals Galatasaray. His most recent trophy came in 2022, when he won the UEFA Europa Conference League with Roma.
Inter will now continue their search for a new head coach, with him ruled out of contention.
