Osun Declares Friday, June 27, 2025, Public Holiday to Mark Hijrah 1447 AH

Why Osun election tribunal nullified Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, June 27, 2025, a public holiday in commemoration of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Rasheed Aderigbigbe, who said the holiday is meant to allow Muslims across the state to celebrate with their families and reflect on the significance of the Prophet Muhammad’s migration from Makkah to Madinah.

In his Hijrah message delivered through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the Islamic New Year as a time for spiritual renewal, deep reflection, and a reminder of the values of sacrifice, perseverance, unity, and divine guidance.

“The Hijrah reminds us of the strength found in unity, the courage to stand for truth, and the grace of peaceful coexistence,” Adeleke stated.

He further called on Muslims to take inspiration from the Prophet’s journey by promoting peace, justice, compassion, and mutual respect in their communities.

“Let us use this spiritual occasion to recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive, compassionate, and harmonious society where our diversity becomes our greatest strength.”

The declaration reinforces Osun State’s commitment to religious inclusivity and respect for cultural and spiritual traditions.
