President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sparked social media buzz on Saturday, May 31, 2025, after a viral video appeared to show him snubbing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu during the commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway Phase 1.
The incident occurred as Tinubu arrived to inaugurate Section 1 (30 km out of the 750 km stretch) of the ambitious infrastructure project.
In a clip shared by Segun Dada, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Tinubu was seen acknowledging greetings from several All Progressives Congress (APC) governors present at the event.
However, when Governor Sanwo-Olu extended his hand to greet the President, Tinubu appeared to deliberately ignore him, continuing past without returning the gesture. The moment, caught on camera, quickly went viral and sparked widespread speculation about possible tension between the two leaders.
The presidency has not issued an official statement regarding the interaction at this time.
Still, the clip has continued to generate mixed reactions online, with some dismissing it as a misinterpretation of events, while others see it as a sign of political unease.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway remains one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Nigeria’s recent history, aiming to link several coastal states and boost economic development.
