Controversial activist Verydarkman has publicly called out Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the founder of Salvation Ministries, following the cleric’s recent threat to arrest bloggers and journalists for publishing news reports about him and his church.
Earlier this week, a video surfaced online showing Pastor Ibiyeomie issuing a stern warning to content creators and media outlets, cautioning them against mentioning his name or discussing his ministry in any capacity.
The video quickly went viral, sparking mixed reactions across social media, with many questioning the pastor’s approach to public scrutiny.
In a fiery response, Verydarkman took to his social media page to criticize the pastor’s remarks. He accused Pastor Ibiyeomie of attempting to use his influence to silence dissent and oppress free speech by threatening arrests.
“I know you travel around the world. Have you seen anybody using police to lock up people for talking? That means you are using your influence now to say you can use the police to oppress. You can’t try this in other countries because the police there would do proper investigations,” Verydarkman said.
He continued, slamming the pastor for allegedly abusing power in a country already struggling with police misconduct and authoritarian practices:
“You cannot command the police to do anything, whether you are influential or not. That is why I said even pastors contribute to the problem in this country. But people don’t understand what I was saying. Nobody dey fear you. Who are you that we will fear? Are you not a human being?”
Verydarkman’s bold stance has stirred further online debate, with supporters applauding his courage and critics defending the pastor’s right to protect his image.
